Khurda, Jan 20: In a tragic incident, a 14-year-old boy was killed while his mother sustained severe injuries after an elephant attacked them at Nandapur Panchayat in Odisha’s Khurda district this morning.
The deceased has been identified as Satya Martha, while his mother Sulochana Martha is currently undergoing treatment at the hospital.
As per reports, Sulochana had stepped outside her house to attend to nature’s call when she came face-to-face with an elephant. Hearing her screams, her son Satya immediately jumped into her rescue.
The duo sustained critical injuries in the attack and were later rescued by the villagers. The villagers rushed them to Khurdha District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) where the attending doctors declared Satya dead.
Upon getting the information, Forest Department officials arrived at the village and launched a probe into the matter.
