Cuttack, Mar 9: In a tragic turn of events, the body of a youth, who jumped into the Mahanadi River in Odisha’s Cuttack out of fear of being arrested, was recovered after 24 hours today.
The body of the deceased, identified as Sheikh Talim, was rescued by the fire services team, ODRAF, and local residents in a rescue operation.
As per reports, some youths were collecting sand at the Baragadia riverbank of Mahanadi under Jagatpur police limits in the district on Friday night when mining department officials and police conducted a joint raid.
Panicked by it and out of fear of being arrested, four youths jumped into the Mahanadi River to escape. Following this, a rescue operation was launched to trace them and three of them were rescued.
Despite extensive search efforts, the rescuers could not find Talim. However, his body was fished out today morning.
