Bhubaneswar, January 22: Odisha DGP YB Khurania today held a press conference at the Office of the Superintendent of Police, Nuapada regarding the incident of 14 Maoists being killed in an encounter between jawans on the Odisha-Chhattisgarh border, just 5 kilometers from the district.
Khurania visited Nuapada along with the Senior police officials. He praised the Nuapada police for their commendable job eliminating Naxals.
The visit comes in the wake of a successful joint operation that resulted in the elimination of 14 Naxalites in the bordering areas of Odisha and Chhattisgarh.
During his visit, DGP Khurania conducted an aerial survey of the core region where intense anti-Naxal operations are being carried out by the Special Operations Group (SOG) of Odisha Police alongside CRPF personnel. The DGP also interacted with the security personnel, commending their efforts in curbing Left Wing Extremism (LWE) in the region.
Earlier in the day, DGP Khurania visited the Jugasaipatna CRPF camp and later participated in a meeting at the Police Ground in Bhawanipatna.
Meanwhile, a joint security operation, involving Odisha Police, Chhattisgarh Police, and the CRPF, continues in the Kularighat forest area of Gariabandh district, Chhattisgarh, near the Nuapada border. The operation, launched based on intelligence inputs, resulted in the death of 14 Maoists in the early hours of January 20 and 21. The security forces also engaged in exchanges of fire with the Naxals on Tuesday night.
On Monday, authorities recovered the bodies of 14 militant, including nine men and five women. Nuapada SP indicated that the toll may rise as further bodies are expected to be found in the area.
