Puri, Jan 13: The Odisha Forest Department has launched an innovative project by equipping flamingos at Chilika Lake with solar-powered GPS-GSM trackers.
Two large flamingos, currently residing at this iconic lake, have been fitted with these advanced trackers to study their migratory paths and behavior.
The solar-powered trackers combine GPS and GSM technologies, allowing real-time tracking of the birds’ movements.
This will provide valuable insights into their migration routes across the subcontinent and beyond. The initiative is part of a larger conservation effort to protect Odisha’s wildlife and preserve its rich ecosystems.
The Wildlife Division has been sharing updates, including photos and videos, on social media to showcase the progress of the project.
