Bhubaneswar, December 4: The Odisha government has fast-tracked the paddy procurement process during the current kharif season.
Currently, paddy procurement is underway in five districts: Bargarh, Nuapada, Sambalpur, Kalahandi, and Balangir. Procurement will be expanded to other districts in a phased manner, with extensive preparations already in progress.
Farmers registered for the procurement process are being provided with the necessary information and tokens. In total, 803 mandis are operational across these five districts, with 197 in Bargarh, 78 in Nuapada, 129 in Sambalpur, 223 in Kalahandi, and 176 in Balangir.
Nodal officers have been appointed at each mandi to closely monitor the procurement process and ensure smooth operations. Efforts are also being made to provide basic facilities for farmers at these mandis. The government has taken measures to ensure that the Minimum Support Price (MSP) is credited to farmers’ accounts within 48 hours, with the Civil Supply Department actively coordinating this effort.
The state government continues to implement various initiatives aimed at promoting the overall development and welfare of farmers.
