Bhubaneswar, June 29: The Odisha government on Saturday announced a new initiative to install CCTV cameras in all paddy procurement centres to ensure seamless transportation of paddy. This measure aims to enhance transparency and prevent corruption in the process. Additionally, GPS systems will be installed in vehicles transporting paddy from the procurement centres to the millers, enabling real-time tracking of vehicle locations.

Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare Minister Krushna Chandra Patra stated, “In a bid to enhance transparency and prevent corruption, the state government has decided to install CCTV cameras in all the mandis and GPS systems in vehicles transporting paddy from the mandis to mills. Technology will be used to prevent corruption and ensure transparency in the transportation of paddy.”

CCTV cameras will closely monitor paddy movement in the mandis, while GPS systems will track vehicle locations in real time. This will enable authorities to verify whether paddy is being transported efficiently and legitimately. District collectors have been informed about this plan, which is set to be executed within two months.

Furthermore, plans are underway to open cold storage facilities in every block, addressing another critical need for the agricultural sector. The installation of cameras is expected to solve long-standing problems faced by farmers, such as irregularities in weighing and delayed payments.

By leveraging technology, the state government aims to create a more transparent and efficient system for paddy transportation, ultimately benefiting farmers and reducing corruption in the process.
