Bhubaneswar, June 29: To ensure smooth transport of paddy, the state government has decided to install CCTV cameras at all paddy procurement centers. Besides, GPS systems will be fitted in vehicles transporting paddy from these centers to the mills.

CCTV cameras will oversee the movement of paddy in the marketplaces, while GPS systems will provide real-time tracking of vehicle locations. This initiative aims to ensure transparent and efficient transportation of paddy, allowing authorities to verify its legitimate movement, informed Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare Minister Krushna Chandra Patra on Saturday.

“The state government aims to boost transparency and curb corruption by installing CCTV cameras in all marketplaces (mandis) and GPS systems in vehicles transporting paddy from these marketplaces to mills. This technological initiative is intended to ensure accountability and transparency throughout the paddy transportation process. CCTV cameras will monitor paddy movement in the mandis, while GPS systems will track vehicle locations. District collectors have been notified of this initiative, which is set to be implemented within two months.Additionally, there are plans underway to establish cold storage facilities in every block”, said the Minister.
