Jajpur, Jan 24: Jajpur District Administration in Odisha suspended the principal and a lecturer of Avimanyu Samanta Singhar Degree College within Bari Ramachandrapur police limits in the district in connection with the alleged rape bid on a female student.
The accused have been identified as Economics lecturer Bidhyadhar Dhal and Principal Sudhir Kumar Rout.
As per reports, Dhal had allegedly attempted to rape a 20-year-old girl student two weeks back in a classroom of the college under the guise of giving her higher marks in the examinations.
The victim further claimed that she reported the incident to the college principal, Sudhir Kumar Rout. However, he allegedly pressured her to resolve the matter amicably.
In an official order, Jajpur sub-collector and president of the college governing body, Ansuman Satpathy, announced immediate suspension of Dhal and Rout, pending the outcome of disciplinary proceedings against them. Rout was suspended for negligence of duty.
Further investigation into the matter is underway.
