Jajpur, Nov 23: Senior BJD leader Pranab Prakash Das, popularly known as Bobby Das' brother Bhaba Prakash Das has been arrested for allegedly assaulting a vegetable vendor in Odisha's Jajpur district, police said on Saturday.
The vegetable seller, identified as Nagen Nayak, had filed a complaint at Jajpur Town police station alleging that he was assaulted by the senior BJD leader’s brother when he went to Biraja Haat on Thursday.
“Bhaba Prakash Das along with his accomplices manhandled me and spoiled vegetables worth about Rs 10,000. They also snatched away Rs 1,200 from me," Nayak alleged.
Two other vendors also filed separate police complaints against Bhaba Prakash Das and his accomplices for allegedly scuffling with them.
Based on these complaints, three cases were registered against the former BJD organisational secretary’s brother at the Jajpur Town police station and police had registered a suo moto case in this connection.
Notably, a dispute is going on after some traders are seeking the restoration of Biraja Haat, an old bi-weekly market, its original location that has been relocated to Santhmadhab for the redevelopment of the area surrounding the Biraja temple.
