Kendrapara, Jan 10: The famous Bhitarkanika National Park in Kendrapara will remain closed for tourists from January 14 to 22 for the annual crocodile census.
The forest department will carry out the counting of crocodiles during this period, and visitors will not be allowed inside the park during this time.
Authorities informed that tourists, both domestic and international, will not be permitted the entry into the park, as the census will involve detailed observations and measurements of crocodiles, including tracking their footprints and estimating their age.
The trained enumerators will be conducting the census, ensuring accurate data collection.
This census is essential to track the crocodile population and to prevent disturbances during the process. The best time for the survey is during the new moon phase to make it easier to spot the crocodiles.
Sudarshan Gopinath Yadav, the Forest Ranger Officer of Rajnagar Forest Division, has issued a notice asking tourists to refrain from visiting Bhitarkanika National Park between January 14 and 22.
