Bhubaneswar, November 23: The Odisha Human Rights Commission (OHRC) has taken cognizance of the restriction on pursuing dual postgraduate (PG) degrees in two state universities, calling for a detailed report on the matter.
The directive follows a complaint filed by students who argue that the prohibition infringes upon their right to education and academic advancement.
The affected universities reportedly cite administrative and resource limitations as reasons for the bar. However, the complainants contend that the restriction stifles academic opportunities, particularly for students aiming to diversify their qualifications for better career prospects.
The OHRC has asked the respective universities and the state higher education department to clarify their stance and submit a comprehensive explanation regarding the policy. The commission emphasized that access to education is a fundamental right and any curbs should be justifiable and equitable.
