Bhubaneswar October 5: Justice Chakradhari Sharan Singh, Chief Justice of Orissa High Court, launched an online Warrant Management System (WMS) on Thursday to enhance judicial efficiency in Odisha.
This system is designed to streamline the execution and tracking of warrants issued by courts, marking a significant improvement in the delivery of justice.
Key dignitaries, including Dr. Justice Sanjeeb Kumar Panigrahi, Chairman of the State Court Management System (SCMS), and senior police officials like Yogesh Bahadur Khurania, Odisha's Director General of Police, were part of the virtual event.
The WMS portal is seen as a transformative tool for law enforcement and the judiciary, as it covers various types of warrants such as bailable, non-bailable, distress, and recommitment.
One of the notable features of the WMS is its focus on transparency and accountability, which aims to eliminate warrant suppression by assigning clear responsibilities to police stations for timely execution.
Real-time tracking and monitoring by the courts and police hierarchies will ensure efficient execution. This addresses a critical issue, as a backlog of 54,799 warrants was pending execution in Odisha as of August 31, 2024.
The system, piloted in Cuttack and later launched in six district courts, is now live across all 421 courts in Odisha.
This comprehensive rollout ensures better coordination and oversight between the judiciary and law enforcement in managing legal warrants throughout the state.
