Jajpur, Dec 28: A Jajpur-based farmer reportedly died of a cardiac arrest on Saturday worried for his devastated paddy crop and overhead debts he had borrowed for the cultivation.
The incident took place under the Chikana Gram Panchayat in the Jajpur district after the unseasonal rain brought out a savage loss of the standing paddy crops.
The deceased has been identified as Manibhadra Mohanty.
According to reports, Manibhadra, a traditional paddy cropper inspected his fields after the heavy showers continued for a few days. Meanwhile, he was shocked to see the yellow and ripe paddy soaked in full of rain water in almost all of his plots. He reportedly collapsed there out of mental stress.
On being informed, he was rushed to the Binjharpur Community Health Center (CHC) by the family members for resuscitation. However, the doctor declared him ‘received dead’.
Worth mentioning, a farmer from Odisha's Kendrapara district had reportedly collapsed of heart stroke seeing his damaged paddy crop due to unseasonal rain on December 26.
