Paris, Aug 3: As Indian men's badminton doubles pair of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty lost in the Paris Olympics 2024 and were forced to bow out without a podium finish, millions of hearts broke.
The pair was believed to be a definite medal winner in Paris Games, which did not come true. Both Satwik and Chirag and Indian badminton fans were devastated.
But coach Mathias Boe, who coached Satwiksairaj and Chirag, after their loss announced that his coaching days are over and won’t be continuing anywhere else “for now at least.”
Evidently, the coach was shocked and is still not out of the trauma. Mathias, who won a Silver medal in London Olympics, began his stint with India’s premier men's double duo before the Tokyo Olympics.
He penned a heartfelt message on Instagram, on Saturday, to Satwik-Chirag after the duo lost in the quarterfinals of the Paris 2024 Olympics and also announced his retirement from coaching.
Mathias also thanked Chirag and Satwik for all their hard work. The Dane too thanked Sports Authority of India (SAI) and Badminton Association of India (BAI) for their support.
The 43-year-old wrote in his Instagram message to Chirag and Satwik, "For me, my coaching days ends here, I’m not going to continue in India or anywhere else, for now at least. I have spend too much time in a badminton hall and it’s also pretty stressful to be a coach, I’m a tired old man."
Mathias is a well respected coach and it's true that he really worked very hard with the Indian pair and let their game flourish worldwide as they won several trophies in recent years.
But Olympics glory remained a dream. That perhaps hurt not only Chirag and Satwik and their sincere and hardworking coach Mathias Boe as well.
