Sahibabad (UP), January 5: Prime Minister Narendra Modi engaged with schoolchildren during a special ride aboard the Namo Bharat train from Sahibabad RRTS station to New Ashok Nagar RRTS station, as part of the train's inauguration. The Namo Bharat train's arrival in Delhi marks a significant milestone in the launch of high-speed mobility options for the National Capital Region.
Currently, a 42-kilometer stretch of the corridor between Sahibabad and Meerut South, which includes nine stations, is operational. With today’s inauguration, the Namo Bharat Corridor now spans 55 kilometers, serving a total of 11 stations. Starting at 5 PM today, the Namo Bharat trains will be available to the public every 15 minutes.
The fare for travel from New Ashok Nagar Station, the first operational station linking Delhi to Meerut, to Meerut South is Rs 150 for the standard coach and Rs 225 for the premium coach. This service offers direct connectivity between Meerut city and Delhi, significantly reducing travel time by a third. The journey between New Ashok Nagar and Meerut South will now take just under 40 minutes.
Since its inception, Namo Bharat trains have served over 5 million commuters, highlighting their growing popularity and success. Meanwhile, work on additional sections—including the New Ashok Nagar-Sarai Kale Khan and Meerut South-Modipuram routes—is progressing at a fast pace.
A noteworthy feature of the newly inaugurated 13-kilometer stretch is the 6-kilometer underground section, which includes the Anand Vihar station, a key stop on the corridor. This is the first underground section of the Namo Bharat trains. Additionally, the New Ashok Nagar station, located in Delhi, is an elevated station.
The Namo Bharat project prioritizes multi-modal integration, in line with the PM Gati Shakti-National Master Plan. This approach aims to make travel more convenient and efficient for passengers, promoting greater use of public transport for a smoother commuting experience.
