Indore (MP) [India], January 21: A police constable in Madhya Pradesh's Indore district faced disciplinary action after a video showing him smoking a cigarette on a moving bike in uniform went viral on social media.
The incident drew attention from the police administration, which penalized the constable, an official confirmed on Tuesday.
The constable, identified as Jitendra Singh Tanwar, is posted at the Police Radio Training School (PRTS) in the district. In the viral video, he was seated on the rear of the bike, resembling the character ‘SP Shekhawat’ from the upcoming movie Pushpa 2, while the rider mimicked the iconic "Jhukega Nahi" gesture from the film. The video, reportedly shot by a social media influencer, garnered over 2 crore views.
Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime Branch) Rajesh Dandotiya summoned both the constable and the content creator, cautioning them against such acts. "Such behavior in police uniform tarnishes the department's image," he stated.
The officer highlighted multiple violations, including disregarding traffic rules by not wearing helmets and smoking in a public place. The Municipal Corporation imposed a spot fine for smoking, and a departmental inquiry has been initiated against the constable.
Addressing the video's viral nature and cinematic portrayal, Dandotiya added, “Promoting this video as resembling the Pushpa 2 character is misleading. Smoking in public while wearing a police uniform is a legal violation, and strict action was warranted.”
