Bhubaneswar, Oct 4: A police Constable was stabbed by an antisocial element on Friday while the cop was handling a group clash.
The incident took place in the Sriram Nagar area under the Macheswar Police limit in Bhubaneswar late at night.
According to the police, four youths were wandering in Sriram Nagar at about 2 AM while two bike-laden youths reached there and started honking. For which a violent tiff broke out between the two groups. Later, the two youths on the bike attacked the other group with knives. As a result, three youths sustained bled injuries.
Smelling something wrong, a PCR which was on the night patrolling rushed the spot and a Constable intervened in the matter to pacify the misunderstanding among the youths but in vain. Meanwhile, one of the bikers reportedly stabbed the constable out of rage.
Following the incident, the anti-social element was picked and later detained by the police.
On being noticed of the gruesome incident, newly joined Bhubaneswar DCP Pinak Mishra said that the PCR team during patrolling witnessed a clash between two groups. While dealing with the matter, a constable was grievously attacked by an aggrieved youth with a sharp weapon. He was detained who would be soon forwarded to court after due interrogation.
