Bhubaneswar, May 15: Private and public sector organisations will be roped in by the Ministry of Culture as ‘Monument Mitras’ for developing, upgrading and maintaining amenities at the heritage sites, said Union Minister G Kishan Reddy speaking at the inauguration of G20 Culture Working Group (CWG) meeting at Bhubaneswar on Sunday.
The Ministry of Culture is likely to launch a revamped ‘Adopt a Heritage’ or ‘Monument Mitra’ scheme by next month. “As a pilot, the scheme was implemented in Red Fort at Delhi. After seeing its good results, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has agreed to extend the scheme to all other important heritage monuments maintained by the ASI,” the Union Minister said.
The scheme will have a dedicated website to showcase architectural details of the Centrally-protected monuments that will be put up for adoption by the organisations including the Sun temple at Konark.
The ministry officials will conduct road shows across the country to reach out to people about it and create awareness among them about the provisions after launching of the scheme.
The state government, Centre and ASI are working together for the development of Shree Jagannath temple and the Parikrama project, said Reddy.
But all work will be done under the supervision of ASI because it is a Centrally-protected temple, he added.
