Veteran actress Jharana Das passes away at 82

Bhubaneswar, Dec 2: Odia film actress Jharana Das passed away at her residence at Chandi Road in Cuttack district late last night. She was 82.

She was born in the year 1945 and was best known for her appearances in Sri Jagannath, Nari, and Hira Nila.

She started her career as a prominent child artist on SIR, Cuttack, and appeared in melodramas such as Amada Bata, Abhinetri, and the classical Malajanha. She learned dance with Guru Kelucharan Mahapatra, a well-known instructor of classical dance in Odissi. She received the Guru Kelucharan Mahapatra Award 2016.

Later, she went back to radio and became well-known in radio plays before joining Amada Bata in cinema.

She also worked for Cuttack Doordarshan as an assistant station director and acted in TV shows.
