Bhubaneswar, December 2: The Odisha Assembly is witnessing intense discussions over the ongoing shortage of potatoes and skyrocketing prices, with opposition parties holding the state government responsible for the crisis.
The situation has raised alarm among the public, particularly as retail prices for potatoes have surged to alarming levels.
Opposition members have voiced their concerns, targeting the state government failing to address the scarcity and inflation of essential goods.
Opposition Chief Whip Pramila Mallik slammed the government for its inability to stabilize prices and ensure the steady availability of potatoes. She also accused traders of exploiting consumers during the crisis.
Similarly, Congress Legislature Party Leader Rama Chandra Kadam reiterated that the BJP-led government has failed to meet the public's needs during this challenging time.
In response to the crisis, around 300 truckloads of potatoes from Uttar Pradesh have begun arriving in Odisha, though the political debate surrounding governance and accountability continues to heat up.
The Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare department has deployed enforcement squads to combat price manipulation, while the Assembly continues to demand a comprehensive solution to this problem.
