Bhubaneswar, Jan 22: A rescued elephant calf, brought to Nandankanan Zoological Park for treatment, has tragically passed away.
The elephant calf, aged five to six years, was rescued from the Karanjia forests after falling into a morum quarry. The incident caused severe spinal cord injuries, leaving the calf unable to bear weight on its hind limbs and resulting in paralysis in its hindquarters.
Under the supervision of Nandankanan authorities and OUAT veterinarians, the calf was being treated in a separate enclosure at the elephant shelter. Despite efforts, the calf succumbed during treatment. The information was confirmed by Sanath Kumar Narayan, Deputy Director of Nandankanan.
