While these events are meant to be joyous celebrations, they often become breeding grounds for potential hazards, putting countless lives at risk due to negligence and a lack of accountability.
The incident in Rourkela, where a malfunctioning Ferris wheel caused injuries to a family, is not an isolated case. It's a symptom of a larger systemic issue where safety regulations are often ignored or inadequately enforced. Amusement rides, a major attraction at these events, frequently operate without proper safety certifications. Authorities often fail to conduct thorough inspections and ensure that these rides meet the necessary standards, putting the lives of unsuspecting individuals, especially children, in jeopardy.
Beyond amusement rides, fire safety is another critical concern that demands immediate attention. Durga Puja pandals, often constructed with temporary materials and adorned with elaborate decorations, can become tinderboxes in the event of a fire.
