Bhubaneswar, January 8: In an unprecedented incident, a Railway Protection Force (RPF) Officer has been arrested for allegedly molesting a girl who was in distress.
The accused Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) has been identified as Niranjan Jena who molested the girl in the name of assistance.
As per the complaint, Jena took ill advantages from the girl who had sought shelter after being vacated from the women’s hostel.
The young woman, hailing from Jagatsinghpur, found herself stranded at Bhubaneswar station due to her hostel being closed. Seeking help, she approached the RPF office where she met ASI Jena.
Taking it as an opportunity, Jena sheltered the girl in a secluded room, locked the doors and molested her.
Fortunately, the victim with the help of local authorities and made a distress call to the Police Control Room. Following this, she was rescued.
Based on the victim’s statement, a complaint was registered with the Government Railway Police (GRP) Bhubaneswar and Jena was arrested on it.
