Bhubaneswar, January 5: In preparation for the 18th Pravasi Bharatiya Divas (PBD) celebration, which will take place from January 8-10 in Bhubaneswar, a comprehensive security mock drill was conducted to ensure readiness against any potential security threats, including terror attacks. The drill aimed to fine-tune security measures for the three-day international convention, which will see the participation of over 10,000 delegates from around the world.
Odisha’s Director General of Police (DGP), Yogesh Bahadur Khurania, oversaw the exercise, with key officials including Bhubaneswar-Cuttack Police Commissioner, Bhubaneswar DGP, and Additional Police Commissioner actively participating. Chief Secretary Manoj Ahuja was also present during the mock drill.
The security simulation involved various agencies, including the Special Operations Group (SOG), Special Protection Group (SPG), Odisha Disaster Rapid Action Force (ODRAF), Fire Brigade, and K9 squads. The scenario for the drill was based on a simulated threat email allegedly sent by Khalistani terrorist Gurpatwant Singh Pannun, which had raised concerns about possible attacks during the PBD event. The drill took place at Janata Maidan on Sunday.
To ensure maximum safety and preparedness, 80 platoons of police personnel and 10 companies of additional security forces have been deployed across the city. Furthermore, 650 senior police officers are tasked with overseeing the security arrangements. The Central Armed Police Force (CAPF) will assist in providing surveillance across Bhubaneswar, which will be under tight CCTV monitoring from January 8 to 10.
