Bhubaneswar, June 19: Senior BJP leader and Ranpur MLA Surama Padhy submitted her nomination papers for the position of Speaker of the Odisha Legislative Assembly on Wedneday. Accompanied by CM Mohan Majhi, Deputy CMs and others, Padhy filed her nomination for the post.
Padhy, aged 67, has been selected by the BJP as their candidate for the Speaker’s post in Odisha’s 17th Assembly following the party’s victory over the Naveen Patnaik-led BJD in the 2024 polls. She first entered the Odisha Assembly representing the Ranpur constituency on a BJP ticket in 2004. Additionally, Padhy held the position of Minister of State with independent charge for the Cooperation department during the BJD-BJP coalition government in Odisha for two terms from 2004 to 2009.
