Guyana, Jun 28: After India humbled England by 68 runs in the second semifinal of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup, here, former India keeper-batter Dinesh Karthik presented the 'Fielder of the Match' medal to Rishabh Pant.
Elated with India's win and Pant's success, Karthik revealed that no one expected Rishabh to make a return to the Indian team so soon and play the World Cup. His story is one of the greatest stories of comebacks in sports, Karthik stated.
Six months back, it was unimaginable to see Rishabh Pant play cricket on the field again. His return to Team India and then become one of the lead performers is unbelievable. He has excelled both with the bat and his excellent gloves-work behind the stumps, which has impressed everyone. It is a rare fortune to honour him for his exceptional catch in the semifinal match, an emotional Karthik shared his feelings.
Though Rishabh did not contribute much with the bat (4runs in 6 balls), but his excellent catch to dismiss England captain Jos Buttler in the fourth over off Axar Patel, was a turning point of the semi battle. Buttler scored 23 runs in just 15 balls, before retuning back to the pavilion.
Rishabh also stumped a dangerous looking England all-rounder Moeen Ali, who was batting confidently on 8 in 10 balls, in the eighth over of the match on Axar's bowling again.
India would play South Africa in the final on Saturday in Bridgetown. Indian fans would expect Rishabh to replicate his fine form and help Team India lift the trophy.
