Hyderabad, December 30: Telangana Assembly has on Monday passed a resolution seeking Bharat Ratna for former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh
Chief Minister Chief Minister Revanth Reddy moved a motion and called for the conferral of India's highest civilian honour, the Bharat Ratna, to former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh.
This demand was made by the Chief Minister while moving a condolence motion at the special session convened to pay tribute to the late leader. The resolution expressed deep sorrow over Dr. Singh's passing and conveyed heartfelt condolences to his bereaved family.
Leaders from across the political spectrum paid glowing tributes to Dr. Singh, recalling his significant contributions to the nation and his close ties with Telangana. The resolution was widely supported by all political parties, with the Bharatiya Rashtra Samithi (BRS), the main opposition party, also endorsing the call for the Bharat Ratna.
BRS Endorses Bharat Ratna Demand
BRS leader K.T. Rama Rao, acknowledging Dr. Singh’s remarkable legacy, affirmed that the late Prime Minister truly deserved the highest recognition. "Dr. Manmohan Singh's leadership and services to India are unparalleled," said Rama Rao, adding that his contributions to the nation's economic transformation, particularly his role as Finance Minister, were monumental.
Statue Proposal to Honour Dr. Singh
In addition to the Bharat Ratna call, Chief Minister Revanth Reddy proposed that a statue of Dr. Manmohan Singh be erected in Hyderabad's Financial District, to honour his deep connection with the state. The Chief Minister emphasized that the statue would serve as a symbol of inspiration for future generations and offer a place for the people of Telangana to pay their respects to the former Prime Minister on his birth and death anniversaries.
Revanth Reddy described the loss of Dr. Singh as a "great loss to the country," highlighting his pivotal role in shaping India’s economic and social landscape. "His contributions to the nation can never be forgotten," he stated.
