In a remarkable display of instinct and endurance, a male tiger named Johnny has embarked on an epic quest for love, traversing over 300 kilometers from Maharashtra to Telangana. His incredible journey, meticulously tracked by a radio collar, has captivated wildlife enthusiasts and conservationists alike, offering a glimmer of hope for the Kawal Tiger Reserve, which has struggled to maintain a stable tiger population.
Johnny, estimated to be between six and eight years old, began his odyssey in the third week of October from the Tipeshwar Wildlife Sanctuary in Maharashtra. Driven by the primal urge to find a mate during the winter mating season, he ventured beyond his familiar territory, crossing forests, agricultural fields, and even a major highway.
His path has taken him through a diverse landscape:
Maharashtra: Starting in Kinwat taluka in Nanded district.
Telangana: Passing through Boath mandal in Adilabad district, followed by Kuntala, Sarangapur, Mamada, and Pembi mandals in Nirmal district.
