New Delhi, July 15: Vikram Misri, an esteemed diplomat renowned for his expertise on China, has assumed the role of India’s new Foreign Secretary as of Monday. A veteran of the 1989-batch of the Indian Foreign Service, Misri succeeds Vinay Kwatra in this pivotal position.
Taking charge amidst India’s diplomatic challenges, notably the ongoing border tensions with China in eastern Ladakh, Misri’s appointment underscores India’s strategic navigation on the global stage.

Previously serving as the Deputy National Security Advisor, Misri brings a wealth of experience, including a unique distinction of having served as private secretary to three Prime Ministers— Inder Kumar Gujral, Manmohan Singh, and Narendra Modi. His diplomatic career includes ambassadorial roles in Spain (2014-2016) and Myanmar (2016-2018), alongside postings in several key Indian missions including Pakistan, the US, Germany, Belgium, and Sri Lanka.
