Bhubaneswar, Dec 11:The Winter Session of the Odisha Assembly was adjourned sine die on Wednesday ahead of schedule.
Out of as many as 30 proceedings scheduled this time, the Session was ended after 12 working days, leaving at least 16 business days suspended.
The winter session commenced on November 26 and was scheduled to continue till December 31. While 20 days were allocated for official business, five days were reserved for private members’ business.
During the session involving 12 working days, Chief Minister Mohan Majhi & the Finance Minister as well presented the supplementary budget for the financial year 2024-25.
Apart from it, at least three public bills were passed and as many as 10 private bills were tabled during the working hours.
The Winter Session of the Odisha Assembly on the very day of beginning, took a stormy note as opposition members created ruckus over deletion of ‘secular’ and ‘socialist’ words from the preamble of the Indian Constitution displayed in the Assembly complex on the occasion of the Constitution Day.
Similarly, shortage of potato and its sky rocketing prices across the state rocked the House on December 2 as the oppositions BJD and Congress alleged the scarcity of the kitchen staple, only for the negligence of the ruling party.
On December 6, the Assembly came noisy over the Polavaram issue, that seeds from the Andhra Pradesh government after Speaker Surama Padhy rejected the demand of the Opposition Congress and BJD for a discussion in the House.
On December 7, opposition BJD members created a ruckus protesting Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi’s allegation that jobs had been sold during the previous Naveen Patnaik led BJD government.
Further on Tuesday, a pandemonium came up in the house over alleged non-payment of salaries to around 70 thousand women associated with the ‘Mission Shakti’ schemes and their mass demonstration on the Lower PMG.
