Nat Sciver-Brunt produced a sensational all-round performance to power the Mumbai Indians to a commanding eight-wicket victory over the UP Warriorz on Wednesday, February 26th, at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium. The win sent Mumbai to the top of the WPL 2025 points table, dethroning Delhi Capitals.
Mumbai Indians Women:
- Bowling: The Mumbai Indians bowlers did an excellent job of restricting the Warriorz to a below-par 142/9. Nat Sciver-Brunt was the star, claiming 3/18 in her four overs, including the crucial wicket of Kiran Navgire. Shabnim Ismail two wickets, and Sanskriti Gupta & Amelia Kerr chipped in one wicket each. The bowlers executed their plans well, preventing the Warriorz from building a significant score.
- Batting: The chase was a cruise for Mumbai, thanks to a superb 133-run partnership between Sciver-Brunt and Hayley Matthews. While Yastika Bhatia fell early, Sciver-Brunt (75* off 44 balls) showed her dominance in batting, smashing 13 fours. Matthews played a perfect foil, scoring 59 off 50 balls with seven fours and two sixes. Captain Harmanpreet Kaur finished things off with a boundary
- Fielding: The fielding was excellent creating constant pressure on UP Warriorz.
UP Warriorz Women:
- Batting: The Warriorz' innings started promisingly, with Grace Harris (promoted to open) and Vrinda Dinesh putting on a 79-run stand. Harris scored a quickfire 45 off 26 balls, while Dinesh contributed a steady 33. However, after Harris's dismissal, the innings lost its way. The lower order failed to capitalize, and the Warriorz ended up with a total that was well below what they hoped for, especially after a strong start. The inability to accelerate in the death overs was a major concern.
- Bowling: Deepti Sharma provided an early breakthrough by dismissing Yastika Bhatia, but the bowlers struggled to contain Sciver-Brunt and Matthews. Sophie Ecclestone eventually dismissed Matthews, but it was too late to change the course of the match. The bowlers lacked the penetration restrict the Mumbai batters.
- Fielding: Was bit slacky to put pressure on the Mumbai Indians .
Sciver-Brunt's Player of the Match performance was the highlight, showcasing her exceptional skills with both bat and ball.
