Kolkata, January 17: As many as 12 doctors of Midnapore Medical College and Hospital including the Medical Superintendent & Vice Principal with 6 PG Trainees, were suspended on Firday for wrongful administration of expired IV fluid to a new mom, who succumbed to alleged adverse effect.
The West Bengal Health authorities, coming down heavily on the concerned doctors for sheer negligence in adressing emergency medical duties, have initiated the disciplinary action in this matter.
Meanwhile, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee sanctioned an ex-gratia worth Rs 5 lakh to the deceased’s family, after the case prompted a political furor.
Worth mentioning, a new mom had recently died and four women became critical after their cesarean sections due to alleged wrongful administration of outdated IV fluids.
