Cadaveric kidney transplant performed at SCB Hospital

Cuttack, April 18: A team of doctors of SCB Medical College and Hospital (SCBMCH) here conducted a cadaveric kidney transplant on Wednesday.

 According to hospital information, Sanjukta Patra (50) was undergoing treatment at SUM Hospital in Bhubaneswar. Her health condition was critical and the attending doctors declared her brain dead. Family members of Sanjukta gave their consent for organ donation to save another life.

The SUM Hospital coordinated with State Organ and Tissue Transplant Organisation (SOTTO) for this following which her liver and kidneys were removed.

The liver was sent to AIG Hospital in Hyderabad and one kidney was brought to SCB Hospital through green corridor.

All arrangements were made by the SCB Hospital's urology department and the transplant was conducted in Rajib Das of Tigiria area in Cuttack district.

Rajib was undergoing treatment in nephrology department of SCB Hospital for the last two years following kidney disease. His relatives failed to donate kidney for him due to different blood group. The condition of Rajib is stated to be stable and he is under observation.

The operation was conducted by a team of doctors under the observation of urology department head Dr Samir Swain and Nephrology department head Aruna Acharya.
