Balangir, April, 21: Balangir police cracked a kidnap and murder case on Sunday where the victim’s uncle was apprehended for hatching the conspiracy for Rs 3 lakh ransom.
Based on a letter demanding ransom, written to the victim’s parents, the Titilagarh police zeroed in on the accused uncle, identified as Rohan Bag after almost a week.
According to the police, Rehan, a 15-year-old boy had gone missing from Belpada village in Odisha’s Balangir district. Investigation revealed that the boy was allegedly abducted and subsequently murdered by his uncle Rohan Bag. Rohan killed his nephew Rehan by strangulating him. However, in a bid to mislead the police, the accused called the family members of the deceased boy and demanded a ransom of Rs 3 lakh.
After interrogation and scene recreation, the police exhumed the decomposed body of the minor and sent it for post-mortem.
