Bhubaneswar, April 17: Odisha-Chhattisgarh border is on high alert following the Kanker encounter wherein as many as 29 Maoists were gunned down on Tuesday.
A day after the fierce gun-battle in Chhattisgarh’s Kanker district with the militants, Odisha police have sealed all entry and exit points to Chhattisgarh on immediate effect. All the highways and the suburban service roads connecting Odisha with Chhattisgarh were also sealed.
The security forces have also intensified search operation and patrolling in various sensitive places across the state. The forces have kept a close watch on the Maoists hideouts on the border areas. Chhattisgarh police also exchanged intelligence inputs with Odisha counterparts to seal the gateways for translocation of the Mao-cadres to the Odisha forests, adjoining to Chhattisgarh.
The entry/exit points of four border districts including Nabarangpur, Koraput, Malkangiri, Nuapada have been sealed as the ultras are expected to enter Odisha forest after suffering massive losses in Chhattisgarh, ADG (Operation) Devidutta Singh said.
Odisha police in coordination with BSF, SOG, DVF, CRPF have been kept readied to face any possible untoward situation, Singh added.
DGP, Odisha Arun Kumar Sarangi reviewed the safety and security at place in the bordering districts, in order to negate access of the militants from outside the state.
Apart from the surveillance on the state-borders, SPs of the Mao-sensitive districts have been asked to remain alert in their respective area so as to address any sort of challenge posed by the naxals.
Worth mentioning, the security forces had eliminated as many as 29 Maoists including a top Mao- cadre in the Kanker forest on Tuesday wherein several security personnel had also sustained critical injuries.
