Bhubaneswar, March 18: The chariot construction work for the Rukuna Rath Yatra of Lord Lingaraj has hit a roadblock due to delay in arrival of timbers.
The chariot construction work has been stopped for a while due to unavailability of timbers. The work will resume after arrival of wood logs from the Khapuria sawmill in Cuttack, said senior carpenter Somanath Maharana.
Timbers from Khandapada forest in Nayagarh district reached the on March 19. We kept one log to perform the’ Anukula’ ritual of chariot construction and rest logs have been sent to Khapuria sawmill. We hope the timbers will reach soon in the ‘Mahakhala’. We have to handover the newly constructed chariot to temple administration on April 14, he added.
Rukuna Rath Yatra, the annual car festival of Lord Lingaraj will be held on April 16 on the occasion of Ashokastami. The chariot is also called ‘Analeuta’ as it does not take any turn during the return journey.
