Diarrhea outbreak claims 12 lives in Odisha’s Malkangiri

Malkangiri, Sep 14: An outbreak of diarrhea in Mathili block of Malkangiri district has claimed 12 lives over the past week. The latest victim was reported today from Luler village.

The fatalities include two from Kutunipali village, three from Atalguda village, and six from Tulasi village. Subhadra Nayak succumbed to the illness today in Luler village.

In response to the crisis, a team of doctors has been dispatched to provide medical care. Currently, more than 10 patients are receiving treatment at Mathili Community Health Center (CHC).

Health & Family Welfare Minister Mukesh Mahaling has coordinated with the Health Director and the Malkangiri Chief District Medical Officer (CDMO) to address the outbreak. 

The Minister said a special team from Malkangiri has been sent to the affected villages to assess the situation. 

The health director and district hospital have been instructed to implement necessary measures to control the outbreak, he informed.
