New Delhi, January 16: Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari has proposed that faulty road construction be treated as a non-bailable offence.
He emphasized that contractors and engineers should be held accountable for accidents caused by poor road conditions and face legal consequences, including imprisonment.
Speaking at an event hosted by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), Gadkari highlighted that India currently has the highest number of road accidents in the world. He called for stricter measures to ensure road safety, stating, "Faulty road construction should be a non-bailable offence, and those responsible—contractors, concessionaires, and engineers—must be punished if their negligence leads to accidents."
