New Delhi, March 20: Leader of Opposition, Rahul Gandhi, on Thursday, reaffirmed his commitment to championing the cause of the backward classes, particularly in securing their rightful share of opportunities and prosperity. This declaration came after he met with a delegation from the National Confederation of OBC Employees' Welfare Associations (NCOBC), an organization representing OBC (Other Backward Classes) public sector employees.

During the meeting, held at his office in Parliament House, Gandhi expressed his solidarity with the NCOBC, emphasizing that he would continue to work tirelessly for the empowerment of backward communities in India. He stated that their rightful share in the nation’s growth and prosperity should not be denied, and he promised to fight for their cause with full strength.

The NCOBC, which represents a significant workforce of around 30,000 OBC employees within India’s public sector, has long advocated for the rights and welfare of OBCs in various government roles. The organization aims to ensure equal representation, better working conditions, and access to opportunities for its members, who often face systemic barriers to advancement in public sector institutions.

Gandhi's meeting with the NCOBC delegation highlighted the ongoing challenges that OBC employees face, including discrimination and underrepresentation in higher positions within the public sector. The former Congress president reiterated his party’s stance on social justice, pledging to keep up the fight to secure the benefits and rights that are rightfully due to these communities.

This interaction comes at a time when discussions on social and economic equity, especially concerning the backward classes, have been central to India’s political discourse. Gandhi’s remarks reflect his broader agenda of advocating for inclusive growth, where every section of society is given equal opportunities to thrive.

In his address, Gandhi underscored that the issues faced by OBC employees are not only about securing quotas but also about ensuring that they have equal access to career advancement, a fair work environment, and opportunities for professional development. He acknowledged the historical challenges and the current struggles that these employees encounter in their professional journeys.

As part of his commitment, Gandhi assured the NCOBC delegation that he and his party would continue to stand firm on these issues, both inside and outside of Parliament, and pursue every possible avenue to address the challenges faced by OBC communities. His message was one of hope and resolve, urging for a fairer, more equitable India where backward classes can share in the country’s prosperity.
