Malkangiri, Sept 11: Despite a reduced rainfall on Tuesday, the flash flood situation in Malkangiri district remains dire, with large portions of National Highway-326 still submerged. This has severely disrupted communication between Malkangiri and its neighbouring state of Chhattisgarh, further isolating the district.
Poteru village, one of the hardest-hit areas, continues to grapple with prolonged power outages and a critical shortage of drinking water. Residents have been left without essential utilities since the onset of the floods.
At least 6 feet of floodwater has entered our homes, destroying all our household items due to the torrential rain since Sunday midnight. Poteru, located 24 kilometres from Malkangiri town and home to over 300 families, is facing particularly harsh conditions as it struggles to recover from the devastating floods.
Rivers in the region were in spate, and many bridges over them were submerged.
