Sheep stolen in cars, 8 arrested in Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar, Sept 20: In a bizzare incident, thieves arrived in two cars, stole sheep in Balianta area of Khurdha district and sped off. While the sheep owner and locals rushed behind the cars, the thieves sped away before anyone could catch hold of them.

They have stolen at least 11 sheep in two high-version cars. However, the vehicles were intercepted in Khurdha area after the police smelled something odd.

 At least 8 persons including some butchers were apprehended after the police unearthed the innovative ways of goat and sheep lifting and supplying them to outer butcher points.

The Balianta Police, based on a sheep owner's complaint, rescued five sheep and seized two cars and 11 mobiles with Rs 37,170 from the possession of the accused.

Sources said, a sheep lifting gang on the prowl in the Khordha and Bhubaneswar area, stole 11 sheep in a VolksWagan and a Renault car from one Karunakar Behera’s dairy farm at Pariapatapur village.

Following this, the sheep owner informed the police and initiated a frantic search to find the herd of sheep. Meanwhile, the police was informed that two cars were suspectedly lifting the sheep before a few hours.

Based on this, the police seized the sheep loaded cars parked near the Kendubilow village and arrested the accused persons from the spot.

The accused persons who hail from Cuttack and Puri areas, were stealing sheep and goats from villages in Khurdha area and supplying them to local butchers at lower prices, the police said.
