Bridgetown (Barbados), July 1: The grand reception of Team India after their ICC TO World Cup 2024 winning feat, is likely to be delayed more due to 'Hurricane Beryl' in the Caribbean.
As per weather reports, 'Hurricane Beryl' is likely to intensify with maximum wind speed of 210 kmph forcing shut down of Bridgetown airport, from where the newly crowned T20 World Champions were scheduled to take their flight back home. The airport has been shut down indefinitely, reports said.
'Beryl' is learnt to be a Category 4 hurricane and was approaching Barbados, where Indian contingent is stationed. After the weather improves, Indian players and support staff are expected to board their return journey flight.
Though the victorious Indian team had a big celebration after winning the T20 World Cup on Saturday, but the real gala celebrations and heroic welcome in India can only take place after Rohit Sharma and Co return home.
As per the earlier schedule, Indian team was supposed to fly from Bridgetown to New York and then reach India via Dubai.
But now efforts are on to allow the team to take a charter flight straight from Bridgetown to New Delhi. The total strength of the Indian contingent who would be boarding the flight are around 70 persons, which includes players, support staff, officials and families, revealed sources.
The team is also scheduled to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other dignitaries in the national capital, who have already congratulated the new World Champions, reports said.
