Tripura, June 28: Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha met with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah in Delhi on Thursday to discuss various issues, including enhancing connectivity with Bangladesh.
During his meeting with PM Modi, CM Saha proposed a new railway link from Belonia in south Tripura to Feni in Bangladesh and the commencement of vehicular movement between the two countries via the ‘Maitri Bridge’.
An official from the Chief Minister’s Office in Agartala stated that CM Saha also advocated for the conversion of the existing single-line railway track to a double line, the designation of MBB Airport as an international airport, and the establishment of an international trade and research center for agar (tree) in Agartala.
Additionally, CM Saha requested the inclusion of the Sabroom (Tripura)-Ramgarh-Chittagong (Bangladesh) and Sabroom-Ramgarh-Mongla routes as protocol routes for transit and transshipment.
The Tripura CM also met with Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and Union Health and Family Welfare Minister J P Nadda to discuss various critical issues related to the state’s development.
During his discussion with Nadda, CM Saha requested for establishment of an AIIMS-like institute in Tripura, a new medical college at Kulai in the Dhalai district, a one-time special grant to ensure the continuation of uninterrupted National Ambulance Services, and the extension of the Regional Geriatric Centre Project.
