Mumbai, March 20: Indian cricketer Yuzvendra Chahal and choreographer Dhanashree Verma have officially been granted a divorce by the Bandra family court.
"The court has granted the decree of divorce. It has accepted the joint petition from both parties. They are no longer husband and wife," said Nitin Kumar Gupta, Chahal's lawyer, speaking to ANI.
Chahal was seen leaving the court today wearing a T-shirt with the words "Be your own sugar daddy" and carrying a jacket in his hand, while Dhanashree Verma was spotted in a white T-shirt, blue jeans, and a black face mask.
Speculation about their separation began when the couple unfollowed each other on Instagram, which led to widespread rumors. Chahal and Dhanashree married in December 2020 in a private ceremony in Gurugram. They had initially connected during the pandemic when Chahal approached Dhanashree for dance lessons. After four years of marriage, the couple decided to part ways.
Chahal and Dhanashree filed for divorce by mutual consent on February 5. However, on February 20, the family court declined to waive the mandatory six-month cooling-off period, as per Indian law. According to their petition, the couple had been living separately since June 2022, 18 months after their wedding. They challenged the court's decision to uphold the cooling-off period.
Today's hearing was scheduled considering Chahal’s upcoming commitments with Punjab Kings in the IPL 2025 season. The cricketer was purchased by the franchise for ₹18 crore. Chahal, one of the most successful bowlers in IPL history, holds the record for the most wickets by an Indian in T20Is and by any bowler in the IPL.
