Bhubaneswar, July 26: As many as 1187 posts of lecturers are lying vacant in Odisha Varsities, said Higher Education Minister Suryabansi Suraj on Friday.
Responding to BJD MLA Ganeswar Behera’s querry in the Odisha Assembly today Suraj said that only 724 Lecturers are serving in the 17 Universities as against the sanctioned strength of 1,911 numbers of teaching faculties.
In order to achieve the curricular activities, the universities are recruiting guest Lecturers from retired Lecturers as per the instruction of the State government through an official letter issued on February 1.
The universities have released advertisements for the post of 1,497 guest lecturers whereas 472 guest faculties have been recruited so far, the Minister said.
Similarly, the government colleges have 385 vacancies of Lecturers.There are 238 sanctioned faculty posts in 48 government colleges across the state, while 1,923 lecturers are currently working in them, Suraj added.
