Cuttack, Sept 4: Tension gripped the Ravenshaw University campus in Odisha’s Cuttack City on Wednesday evening as a face off broke out between two students’ unions during a torch rally taken out under the aegis of ‘Save Ravenshaw Legacy’ forum.
Sources said the rally organized by the ‘Save Ravenshaw Legacy’ forum comprising former students, marched from Ranihat to Ravenshaw Campus, raising slogans against Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, who suggested for changing the name of the Ravenshaw University. However, the entry of the protesters into the campus was reportedly opposed by students from the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) that led to a face off between the student’s wings and some outsiders.
Police intervened to pacify the irate students and protesters. Meanwhile, students alleged that a handful of outsiders were entering the campus, flouting university guidelines, and creating a ruckus in the glorious institution.They also alleged that they were assaulted by a group of outsiders.
Armed police forces have been deployed on the campus to keep up peace and tranquility on the campus and to deal with furhter unforeseen situations.
