Champions' Payday: Indian Team Awarded Rs 58 Crore
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is celebrating India's Champions Trophy 2025 victory in style, awarding the triumphant team a staggering Rs 58 crore in prize money. The announcement follows India's decisive win over New Zealand on March 9th at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, securing their third Champions Trophy title after previous wins in 2002 and 2013.
BCCI Officials Laud Team's Achievement
BCCI President Roger Binny praised the team's "dedication and excellence on the global stage," emphasizing that the cash award acknowledges the "hard work" of everyone involved. Binny also highlighted the significance of this victory, coming after the Indian U19 Women's World Cup win earlier in 2025, as evidence of a "strong cricketing ecosystem" in India.
BCCI Vice-President Rajeev Shukla echoed these sentiments, calling the reward a "tribute to the outstanding performances" throughout the tournament. He commended the players' "remarkable composure under pressure" and described their success as an "inspiration to aspiring cricketers across the country." He reiterated that it showed the mental toughness of the team.
India's Road to Victory
India's path to the Champions Trophy title was marked by consistent dominance. They kicked off their campaign with a six-wicket win over Bangladesh, powered by Shubman Gill's eighth ODI century. A victory against arch-rivals Pakistan followed, with Virat Kohli's 51st ODI hundred leading the charge. A final group stage win against New Zealand, featuring a five-wicket haul from Varun Chakravarthy and a crucial 79 from Shreyas Iyer, secured their top spot.
In the semi-final, Kohli again shone with 84 runs, guiding India to a four-wicket victory over Australia. The final against New Zealand saw captain Rohit Sharma step up with a crucial 76, securing a four-wicket win and the coveted trophy. Shreyas Iyer was the top scorer for India, with 243, whilst Shami and Chakravarthy took 9 wickets. The significant financial reward underscores the BCCI's appreciation for the team's achievement and serves as a further incentive for continued success on the international stage.
