Bhubaneswar, July 24: The belongings of a BSNL office in Bhubaneswar is going to be auctioned soon to compensate a contractor’s outstanding bill.
A court has asked the BSNL Chief Engineer to recover the contractor’s dues by fetching out the articles of the office.
The incident came to fore when a court team reached at the Chief Engineer’s office to initiate the auction call and failed, finding it locked.
Sources said, one Subash Chandra Kanchan, a civil contractor had executed construction of 5 BSNL staff quarters in 2000. Subsequently, he constructed nine quarters behind Kalinga Hospital. However, the bill amounting to Rs 78 lakh is yet to be paid to him.
Following this, Kanchan moved the court in this connection. Hearing it, the court ordered to auction the articles of the BSNL Chief Engineer's office to recover the dues.
According to the contractor, “Notices were served to the BSNL authorities thrice but there is no response from the office so far. We have informed police in this connection.”
