Bhubaneswar, August 22: With Janmashtami round the corner, markets are flooded with godly knick-knacks to make a buying spree.

Brass idols of Radha-Krishna, fancy swings, decorative crowns, necklace and colourful designer clothes are all stocked up. Moreover, the unique collections of flutes are attracting devotees.

Some shopkeepers of Unit – II Market claimed that the demand for Radha-Krishna attire for children has gone up manifold for last several years and the price range is from Rs 250 to Rs 1,500.

Similarly, some schools have paid advance in Chitralayas for Krishna attire ahead of Krishna Janmashtami celebrations. Modern Chitralaya owner Dilip Kumar Sahoo said, “We have got scores of advance order for Krishna attires for Janmashtami celebrations and we have brought new collections as per demand”.

This year Janmashtami will be celebrated on August 26. Devotees mark the birth of Lord Krishna and observe a day-long fast on this occasion.

School and housing societies organise Krishna plays and Radha-Krishna attire competitions to celebrate the auspicious occasion. Parents also like to dress up their children as Lord Krishna or Radha.
