Bhubaneswar, March 24: The Central Government has announced a 24% increase in the salaries of Members of Parliament, effective from April 1, 2023. The hike, which is based on the Cost Inflation Index, was confirmed through a notification issued by the Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs on Monday.
Under the new structure, the monthly salary for MPs will rise to Rs 1.24 lakh, up from the previous Rs 1 lakh. The notification also mentions an increase in the daily allowances for current members and enhanced pensions for former MPs, as well as an additional pension for every year of service beyond five years.
The daily allowance for MPs has been revised from Rs 2,000 to Rs 2,500. Additionally, former MPs will now receive a pension of Rs 31,000 per month, an increase from the previous Rs 25,000. The additional pension for every year of service beyond five years will also see a rise, going from Rs 2,000 to Rs 2,500 per month.
This revision is aimed at addressing inflation and providing better financial support to Members of Parliament.
